About Us
The National Society of Black Engineers’ mission
is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically,
succeed professionally and positively impact the community.
The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) with
more than 24,000 members is one of the largest student-managed organizations in
the country. NSBE is comprised of more than 270 chapters on college and university
campuses, 75 Alumni Extension chapters nationwide and 75 Pre-College chapters. These
chapters are geographically divided into six regions. – (nsbe.org)
The University of Idaho Chapter (NSBE-UI) in our
attempt to contribute to NSBE as a whole has embraced the following to be our mission
“To develop and implement programs that advance the Inland Northwest’s interest
in the various engineering and science disciplines, and also to increase the number
of minority students studying science or engineering at the University of Idaho
for both the undergraduate and graduate levels. By focusing on meeting the needs
of the Inland Northwest’s students, we aim to increase the quality and quantity
of positive activities that engage students and increase the number of opportunities
for positive student interaction. It is our vision that fostering a student collaborative
effort will ensure positive, productive and responsible students, in all the students
we encounter.
NSBE-UI is also dedicated to and aspires to focus
its efforts on ensuring that the student experience we provide fosters the transmission
of knowledge and inspires intellectual curiosity in each student providing leadership
in the pursuit and dissemination of knowledge to all while, recognizing that the
continual transmission of knowledge and lifelong learning are essential.
It is our aspiration to provide the highest quality
educational programs with the cornerstones of value learning, self-worth and quality
performance among students, while fostering transition for students to a productive
and responsible participation in society at large
